Friday News & Action

Hello Democrats,

First, I would like to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Veterans Day! Please join me in thanking the brave people who have served our country and preserved our freedom – and the terrific leaders like Senator Patty Murray who are working tirelessly to ensure our veterans receive the services they need here at home. Many, many thanks to our Veterans, their families, and all our active duty military members and families as well.

Second, what a week of elections! I wanted to share a bit more about the results here in Washington State. As of last night’s drop 78% of ballots returned have been counted and we are inching closer to a final picture. Please expect a more in depth update on the election later this month after certification!

Here’s where we currently stand in some of the most important races:

  • All of our Democratic incumbents, including Senator Patty Murray and Congresswoman Kim Schrier’s leads have held, and we are on track to retain every single one of our Democratic seats at the state and federal level!

  • In WA-03, Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has maintained a lead over MAGA Republican Joe Kent, with 50.8% the vote – meaning we remain on track for a Democratic pickup in the US House of Representatives.

  • Secretary of State Steve Hobbs has won – ushering in a new era of Democratic Secretaries of State who will fight to expand voting rights and lift up the voice of every Washingtonian.

  • We are poised to gain a State Senate seat in LD 42 – go Dr. Sharon Shewmake!

  • We have multiple WA State House pickup opportunities that remain too close to call as of this writing:

    • In LD 10 Clyde Shavers leads incumbent Republican Greg Gilday with 51.3% of total votes. Incumbent Rep. Dave Paul is on track to hold his seat with 53.1%.

    • In LD 26 Adison Richards leads narrowly with 50.2% the vote, Matt Macklin looks unlikely to make up the gap with 44.2%.

    • In LD 42 Rep. Alicia Rule is in a strong position to hold her seat with 51.8% the vote. Newcomer Joe Timmons is on track to retain Sharon Shewmake’s current seat in the House with 51.3%.

You can see all the current results via the Democratic (I love saying that!) Secretary of State’s website here:

Keep in touch, stay engaged, and as always, thank you for all you do!

With gratitude,

Chair Tina Podlodowski
