    Good Afternoon Democrats,

This week has been a roller coaster for our democracy. Yesterday's events in Washington DC are disheartening to say the least, but we must remember three important truths. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' victory has been certified, they will assume office on January 20th, and the voters of Georgia delivered them a much-needed Senate majority -- allowing for the passage of progressive policy for years to come! We are so excited to close the books on this dark era in American politics and drive forward to a brighter, more hopeful future.

Although we cannot be together in person this year, we will be holding a virtual celebration here in Washington State to honor our new President and Vice President! As a devoted PCO, this celebration would not be complete without youand we hope you will join us for a virtual reception on "Inauguration Eve" - Tuesday, January 19th!

We are excited to hear from terrific Democratic leaders from Washington State and across the nation including superstar Jaime Harrison! It will be a celebration you do not want to miss -- and stay tuned for more speaker announcements in the coming weeks!

    Tuesday, January 19th

    6:00pm to 7:00pm

    Event Details Provided upon RSVP

    Please RSVP here: https://act.myngp.com/Forms/7588427292742780672

Please direct all questions to WA Democrats Development Coordinator Anjali Narula at anjali@wa-democrats.org.

Your efforts as a PCO are incredibly valuable to the party, and in such an unprecedented year, you played a vital role in helping get Joe Biden and Kamala Harris elected. Given the myriad of events this week, please do not forget all the hard work that you put in, and remember to celebrate the wins. Please join us in celebrating a new day in American politics and preparing for future victories!

    With Gratitude,

    Tina Podlodowski

Statement in Support of Washington State Democratic Delegation that have called for Pence to Enact the 25th Amendment

    For Immediate Release | January 7, 2020

SEATTLE -- Following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol yesterday, Tina Podlodowski, Chair of the Washington State Democratic Party, issued the following statement:

“Many members of our delegation are calling for Vice President Mike Pence to take action and to remove Trump from office by immediately enacting the 25th Amendment. This is the most effective way to make sure that President Trump is stripped of official powers and blocks him from causing any further harm as we are 13 days out from an official transition to the Biden-Harris Administration.

What we saw yesterday was an attack on our democracy and an attack on the voting rights of the American people as extremists marched through our nation’s capitol to promote disenfranchisement of American voters and endanger members of Congress and nonpartisan Capitol staff.

Thirteen days gives too much time that could continue to endanger workers in and around the U.S. Capitol, and as we’ve seen in Olympia, at our state Capitol buildings across the nation.

We stand with every member of the Washington State delegation that have called for Vice President Pence to enact the 25th Amendment and encourage Democrats in Washington to contact their Congressional representatives and senators to show support for their bold and decisive leadership in defense of our democracy.”

Subject: PLEASE READ - Update on DC Mob, Olympia Incident, Your Safety

Date: January 6, 2021 at 3:31:49 PM PST

    To: wsdcc@wa-democrats.orgexec@wa-democrats.orgcvc@wa-democrats.orgCCC@wa-democrats.org

    Cc: Staff <staff@wa-democrats.org>

    Dear Democrats,

I’m emailing to provide as much information as we can regarding the Pro-Trump mob violence at the U.S. Capitol campus today, and ask you to take your safety very seriously today, and in the days to come. Please.

Every member of our Congressional delegation is physically safe, as are their staff.

Speaker Pelosi and soon-to-be Majority Leader Schumer are calling for Trump to demand his people leave the city, and we echo their call for a return to peaceful order in DC. A 6pm curfew is in effect per order of Mayor Muriel Bowser, and will remain in effect until 6am Thursday.

There is currently an emergent issue in our state capitol in Olympia, where a crowd has gathered outside of the Governor’s mansion. The Governor and his family and staff are safe.

As you can read from many news accounts, Trump continues to dispute the election results, without evidence, and has encouraged his supporters to attend rallies around the country today - including one in Olympia. He took to the stage about noon in DC, still falsely claiming he had won the election. Later at the U.S. Capitol, Trump supporters pushed past police who were trying to block them from entering the building as lawmakers inside debated the counting of electoral college votes confirming the Biden/Harris victory. A mob was able to breach security and successfully enter the building, where one person was shot and has died, and damage was caused. Lawmakers and staff were evacuated.

Let’s be honest here. Today was a massive attack on the American system of democracy by white domestic terrorists. Let’s get real here. We’ve seen more force, including deadly force, used against Americans peacefully marching for Black lives to matter than we do when CONFIRMED White nationalist groups are marching through the halls of our nation’s Capitol.

This is not how you defend democracy. This is how you ride the wave of hate - racist hate - generated by a wannabe dictator and an IMPEACHED President who refuses to respect the voices and votes of the majority of Americans.

This is not new to the Republican Party under Trump, either here in Washington State or nationally. This is the culmination of four years of his dangerous, anti-democratic rhetoric. We’ve seen repeated instances of the embrace of this kind of extremist violence among the WA GOP, who have failed time and time again to condemn that behavior - in Matt Shea, and Robert Sutherland, and Jim Walsh, and Loren Culp and on and on.

We cannot stop our work, or our efforts. This cannot stand.

This is a dark day for our republic, but there is a new dawn ahead for our nation. With Democrats now in control of the Senate after last night’s victories in Georgia, and President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President election Kamala Harris set to take office in two weeks, this unacceptable act of domestic terrorism will not be forgotten and those responsible will surely be held accountable.

Right now, I am most worried about you, and especially our BIPOC, recent immigrant, undocumented or gender non-binary democrats who in the past have been targeted by extremists.

Please - reach out to each other and make sure that your local folks are safe, and and take the time to talk to each other. Please report any threatening notes, or calls or social media, any "non-normal" activity near your homes, or other disturbances to your local police and to us. We can help with this reporting if necessary. If you need guidance, you can reach our Communications Director Will Casey at emergency@wa-democrats.org. Will is an attorney and will help you navigate that reporting process, but we are no substitute for contacting your local law enforcement

Additionally, if you are at all concerned about anything that has occurred in the last few days please reach out. We are here for you and it’s a scary time - we want to be able to help and to track patterns across the state if necessary.

After the December arson at our Spokane County Democrats office, and with additional reports of pipe bombs and gunfire reported in the United State Capitol as well as the Democratic National Committee Headquarters, I also fear local actors may look to replicate the actions of their national counterparts. I want to be clear that we do not have reason to think at this time that there is any coordination between the actions in DC with groups here in Washington State, but this situation is obviously still developing, and your personal safety should be of paramount priority to all of us.

For your safety, at this point we also must recommend that any local party organizations with a physical offices immediately vacate any sensitive materials such as computers, data or records, or financials from that office, and then immediately suspend use of that office for at least the remainder of the week. Ensure all doors are locked, and no individuals’ belongings remain, and plan to check-in with our Party Affairs staff at the end of this week or early next about reopening.

I know that this is a difficult time, and hearing news like this is both incredibly scary and infuriating. To everyone in the State, this is a grim reminder of how dangerous some folks can be. It’s important that we all consider security as one of the top priorities in our organization - please take an extra step today to asses any physical spaces for security threats or concerns. Please connect with fellow Democrats. Please be sure to take the time you need for yourself today, and please reach out to us if you need to talk, or have any questions.

    Thank you, Tina

    Dear Democrats,

A reminder that tomorrow is the last day that our HQ office is open until January, as we give staff a much deserved break. Please enjoy the holidays safely with family and friends, and thank you for all you do for democracy! If there *is* an emergency, DO email emergency@wa-democrats.org and we will be in touch immediately.

With that said, we have every intention of hitting the ground running on January 4th and doing all we can to support our local candidates in the coming cycle! In addition to working with you to recruit Democrats to run in thousands of down-ballot races in 2021 – an unprecedented opportunity to continue to  “build the bench” statewide – remember that Senator Patty Murray and all seven of our Democratic Members of Congress will be up for re-election in 2022, plus legislators in NEWLY DRAWN districts! Both Rise and Run and Rise and Organize will kick off those efforts in January!

Additionally, our priories will include redistricting, launching special rural engagement projects statewide, and continuing a comprehensive diversity and inclusion program to become an anti-racist party – the first from a Democratic State Party with such a significant investment.

I’m especially proud that in the last two years we:

    • Did the work and made the switch from a caucus to a primary in the presidential cycle - enabling 1.7M voters to participate!
    • Quickly pivoted to a strong virtual coordinated campaign program in a pandemic and made a record breaking 3.5M calls, sent 600K+ texts, and engaged over 14,000 vols in our 2020 Coordinated Campaign.
    • Elected the most diverse state legislature ever in 2018, and then shattered that ceiling AGAIN in 2020 with five new Black legislators in 2020, all while re-electing folks like Jay Inslee and Kim Schrier and electing Marilyn Strickland in CD10, our first Black and Korean-American Congresswoman for WA plus taking back the Treasurer’s seat with Mike Pelliciotti.
    • Built an entire (and successful) infrastructure for virtual caucuses and a virtual statewide convention (with debate!)
    • Built our dedicated constituency organizing team for work in the Black, Latinx, Native American and AAPI communities while increasing voter turnout in EACH of those communities.

    And so much more.

Attached is the “wrap up” report from our 2020 Coordinated Campaign - please take a moment to read it, as we’ve come a LONG way from 2017, and our two seat majority in the State House, and one seat minority in the State Senate…the “blue swing” graphic on page 3 should especially draw your attention, as it’s pretty darn amazing, Thanks to you. And, according to our friends at the Rural Democracy Institute, we’ve incredible gains…more on that in 2021 too! Feel free to email with any questions.

Also, here is a link to the report should the attachment not come through for you: https://www.wa-democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/WA-DEMS-2020-COORDINATED-CAMPAIGN-WRAP-UP.pdf

You allowed us to rise above each challenge this year threw at us without compromising our goals, our standards, or our values. We could have never done this without you – and hope you will continue helping us earn Democratic victories in 2021 and beyond. Very best wishes for the happiest, healthiest holiday season possible and I so look forward to speaking with you in the new year.

    With gratitude,

    Tina

    Dear Democrats,

Here’s an update regarding the incident at the Spokane County Democrats HQ yesterday. We can use your help.

Many of you may have seen the article in today’s Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/12/10/spokane-county-democrats-bomb-threat/

We remain utterly grateful that none of our volunteers were physically hurt, and are in close contact regarding their overall wellbeing, especially given the truly terrifying nature of the incident. Please hold them in your hearts for just a moment today.

We so appreciate them, and, of course for safety reasons will not disclose identities. Last night we also had a virtual gathering of over 50 members of the Spokane Dems Community that included Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig, Representatives Marcus Riccelli and Timm Ormsby, and Commerce Director and former State Senator Lisa Brown. It was the best of people coming together and I want to thank everyone who participated.

I want to especially acknowledge and lift up the amazing leadership of Spokane County Democrats Chair Nicole Bishop, Spokane Dems Operation Manager Angie Beem, and our own Spokane-based Washington State Democrats Vice Chair David Green. Thank you.

The bottom line is that the fire set by the perpetrator of the incident has resulted in a near total loss of the office and contents. The photos are heartbreaking and triggering for some and I will not share them here.

If you can, the Spokane Democrats will need funds to replace, repair, reorganize, rebuild and restore lost personal items as well. Many aspects of “next steps” remain up in the air as we work with the police, insurance, building management and owners, and a myriad of steps to recovery.

Please help here with a donation: https://act.myngp.com/Forms/-986707872747354368 Any amount helps and every amount will make a difference.  Please use this link, as we can better handle PDC reporting on these donations at this time thru this link.

Also, if you can, take a moment to leave a message of support on the Spokane County Democrats FB page - let’s send our warmest (virtual) hugs here: https://www.facebook.com/spokanedemocrats

Finally, I want to recap what we do and don't know:

    • We do know that no one from our organization was physically hurt in the attack, thank goodness. We are in close contact with our volunteers as they recover from this terrifying event.
    • We do know from the volunteer who spoke with the suspect that his manifesto mentioned "something" about Democrats and Republicans, but not what the content was beyond that.
    • Accordingly, we believe that this was politically motivated, but we do not know this person's party affiliation or personal beliefs.
    • At this time, we're not aware of when (if at all) the manifesto would be released to the public or effected parties, and we're not aware of the suspect's identity.
    • The Spokane County Democrats Office has been devasted by fire, and we can use your support and donations as you are able.

As we did in our with the Spokane Dems yesterday, we're continuing to direct any inquiries beyond requests for instructions on how to support the Spokane Dems to the police.

If we get any further information, I'll be sure to reach out with an update.

Finally, this is a scary situation. And another reminder that It’s important that we all consider security as one of the top priorities in our organization - please do take that extra step today to asses any physical spaces for security threats or concerns.

Please reach out to us if you need to talk, or have any questions.

    Thank you,

    Tina

Subject: Official Update on GA Senate races and volunteers opportunities....
    Importance: High

    Hi Democrats -

Today there was a large DNC-sponsored conference call and presentation with State Party staff on the best ways to support the GA campaigns - that information is detailed below.

Please NOTE that Out of State (OOS) volunteers are being asked NOT to travel to Georgia to help in the races…there are more than enough folks “on the ground” for those efforts, and here’s what they’ve specifically asked up tp pass along:

    • The Ossoff and Warnock campaigns, in partnership with the DSCC and Democratic Party of Georgia, have undertaken a robust coordinated program to target and reach voters ahead of the January 5th runoff elections. The multimillion dollar initiative includes:
      • in-person paid and volunteer door-to-door canvassing that will observe all necessary public health and safety protocols;
      • outreach, engagement and mobilization of key constituencies- specifically Black, LatinX, AAPI, and young voters - including those who turned 18 after the November 3rd election and are now eligible to vote in the runoffs;
      • a digital organizing program that uses the sophisticated targeting tools that helped President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris flip the state for the first time in decades.
    • The DNC has been actively involved in the Georgia runoff elections, including:
      • Providing technical support and added capacity
      • Supporting the GA Voter Protection team, including standing up a fully-staffed voter protection hotline
      • Reprising IWillVote.com as the premier voter information lookup tool
    • Out of State (OOS) volunteers are critical in getting through the remote calls and texts that need to happen, especially around the important upcoming deadlines. The opportunities for OOS volunteers will cast a wide contact net - but please DO NOT travel to Georgia to support efforts.
    • The data is clear. Talking to voters is the best way to decide an election’s outcome. Here are some opportunities for OOS volunteers to help us do just that!
      • Phonebanking: we’ll train you to use our calling platforms and provide real-time support so you can have meaningful conversations with voters throughout the state. Join us here
      • We’re also looking for volunteers to help us navigate digital spaces and online communities. Our Digital Volunteers will help us amplify our messaging, create content and more! Sign up here!
      • You can also make a contribution to the coordinated campaign! Donate here!
    • The coordinated campaign will conduct extensive voter targeting by constituency, and as this is a critical part of the campaign, it will be undertaken by experienced volunteers and activists that live in Georgia.
    • We will continue to share additional volunteer activities and needs from the campaign as they come down the pipeline. For now, the best thing we can do is reach as many voters as possible before key dates like the voter registration deadline (December 7) and early vote in person period (December 14 - 31).

    FAQs:

Q: I don’t live in Georgia, but I can travel there and stay with friends. Should I fly down to Georgia?
A: No. We recommend you participate in remote volunteering opportunities, as well as making sure your friends and family that do live in Georgia are registered to vote using
    www.iwillvote.com.

Q: I have a large group of friends/co-workers/volunteers that want to phone bank together. What is the best way for us to help?
A: That’s great! You have two routes you can take. You are welcome to join one of the coordinated campaign’s pre-scheduled phone banks (multiple shifts per day) OR host your own phone bank using the dialer. If your group is experienced with the dialer and will not require much technical assistance, we welcome you to schedule and run your own phone bank. If this is the first time volunteering for some of your group and you are not capable of providing troubleshooting support to your volunteers, we recommend joining the pre-scheduled phone banks.

Q:  Can we call a specific universe of voters?
At this time, OOS volunteers will be calling into the larger GA voter universe and we will not be able to offer targeted constituency lists. In-state volunteers will be doing constituency specific voter contact.

Thanks to all who are considering supporting, and represents the best info we have at this time.

Stay well and safe - Tina

Subject: LPO Leadership Survey Results & SCM Overview for New Members

    Happy December Democrats!

Welcome to the beginning of Local and State Party Reorganization!

First off, I know that many of you have sent me your reorganization dates, and thank you for that! You can find a calendar of reorganizations on our website under the LPO section here. If your district isn’t on that list I need that information ASAP. If you would like a join link or other logistical information added please let me know and I can add that in to the State Party website as well!

Additionally, as promised, we wanted to provide everyone with the full report out of the LPO leadership survey at a state level. It’s attached below.

As a reminder, the data beyond what is in this report is not viewable by State Party Staff or the Chair. Additionally, any responses have already been dissociated from any identifying information related to respondents, so my ability to give you more detail than what is provided in this report will be limited.

I also want to caution folks to remember that this is a sampling. We had slightly below a 50% response rate for the leadership level survey. (Remember, this is different than the PCO survey which will be released in the coming weeks).

As a result we are working in the aggregate with this data, but it should provide a significantly interesting context for your re-organization meetings. As a reminder, we always strive to have our Party leadership at least reflect the make up of our electorate, which as defined in our Delegate Selection and Affirmative Action Plan for 2020 is below:

    PastedGraphic-3.png

As of this writing, our State Party Executive Committee is comprised of 57.7% from the African American, Hispanic, Enrolled Native American and AAPI categories and 30.7% from LGBTQ and Disabilities categories.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but do thoughtfully consider who you may have ready to step up into a leadership role in your local organization.

These numbers and the leadership survey represent the state aggregate (but at only 50%), but you’ll note right away that we have a lot of work to do in all of these categories to bring cumulative local party leadership better in-line with our electorate - and, only local organizations can make those choices about who to elect to send to the State Committee and serve as Chairs, Vice Chairs, etc.

As you’re going into your reorganization meetings this month and next, please keep this in mind. Our Party works best when the people it represents are reflected in their leadership. If you have the opportunity to promote, support or encourage anyone, now is the time to do it, and we hope having some data to back it up helps each district consider an inclusive leadership team.

Additionally, we wanted to provide a high level “The State Party and Central Committee” for you to share with your districts and those stepping up to run to represent your district on the Central Committee. It’s meant to be a brief introduction to the role of the State Party and some of the best ways to be successful as a Central Committee Member. For those of you who are returning members this document likely won’t contain any shocking revelations, but it’s a good introduction for anyone considering a run for the position, and is likely a good refresher for everyone regardless to consider your performance as a member.

Please let me know if you have any questions about either of these materials and thank you,

    Drew

    Subject: PCO Survey Update

    Good morning Democrats,

Please be aware that this is one of THREE emails you’ll receive before the Thanksgiving holiday; the other two will address two different topics:

    - an upcoming committee-wide listening session and initial Diversity, Equity and Inclusion discussion on December 6th at 12pm and;

    - additional guidance on auditing ballots for your reorganizations.

We know this can be a busy time for some and a time of recovery for others, so please keep an eye on your inbox to make sure you don’t miss either of those emails, and wanted to get the listening session date on your calendar as soon as possible.

For this email we wanted to let you know that our consulting team have finished tabulating the total participation of the PCO response to surveys, and we wanted to thank all of you for your work to make the process a success!

We had 2,352 PCOs out of a possible universe of 3,794 respond to the survey, for a total participation rate of 62%. This also means we’re ready to begin the process of distributing the incentive rewards to districts as our consulting team distills a lot of great data!.

First up we want to give a hearty congratulations to the Legislative Districts that successfully hit our initial goal of 85% and will be receiving the full $1,000 incentive reward; LD’s 5, 13, 14, 25, 30 and 35. We know how hard each of your districts hustled to get to the completion rate here, and know that we so value you input to the process!

However, we also know that many other districts worked equally as hard and came up short through circumstances completely outside of their control. Because of this, Tina, Heather and I “huddled”, and we’ll also be distributing partial rewards depending on district performance to every single LD - after all, 2,352 responses is pretty amazing.

The amounts and districts are outlined below:

    • If your district had PCOs participate, but did not hit the Statewide average of 62%, your district will receive $500. These districts are 2, 3, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 27, 29, 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 45, 46, 48, 49
    • If your district performed above the Statewide average of 62%, but missed the original goal of 85%, you’ll be receiving $750. These districts are 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 31, 34, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 44, 47.

Congratulations to each of your districts, we know many of your worked incredibly hard to make this a success.

Heather should already have all of your districts information for disbursing funds, but we may reach out if there is any additional information necessary. For example, if you are a mini-filer, you may wish to delay disbursement until 2021, or, you may wish us to send the check to your county organization instead. Please contact Heather ASAP if so.

And again. next steps here are that our consulting team are working on the aggregate data to put together a report and decide a decision process on next steps. Also, we have almost finalized the report on the LPO leadership survey.

We expect to be able to share the LPO leadership survey results with everyone early next week, and the PCO results within the next 2-4 weeks.

Keep an eye out for TWO MORE more emails this week before Thanksgiving and thank you again!

    Drew

PS - have you let me know your reorganization date and information? If not please do today! Thank you!

Ultimately,  we are on the same team and want our great country to thrive, restore the American dream and return to sanity.  It's deeply troubling that the blame game has already started.

If I understand the moderate view correctly, getting along and working across the aisle, not rocking the boat and for heaven's sake stop talking about far-left views such as the Green New Deal and Medicare for all because that approach cost us the senate and limited the house.

If you look at the issues and candidates that won though, a different picture arises.  Just a few years ago a $15 an hour minimum wage was considered far left and impossible.  Florida voted for a $15 minimum wage and at least 7 other states are contemplating it in the near future.  Four states;  Montana, South Dakota, New Jersey and Arizona have legalized recreational marijuana and Mississippi voted to reclassify it and make medicinal marijuana legal.

Arizona passed a 3.5% tax on residents making more than $250,000 a year to prop up their schools and teachers pay.

Utah and Nebraska both overwhelmingly voted to end slavery as a potential punishment for committing a crime.  Hard to believe it was still on the books.

The most outspoken and unapologetic progressives like Cori Bush in Missouri,  all four of "The Squad" and Jamal Bowman all won easily.  Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres became the first openly LGBTQ black members of the US Congress.  Sarah McBride became the first transgender state senator in United states history.  Stephanie Byers became Kansas's first trans legislator, Jabari Brisport, the first LGBTQ person of color elected to the New York State Legislature.  Kim Jackson became Georgia's first openly LGBTQ State Senator Torrey Harris and Eddie Mannis, first LGBTQ legislators elected in Tennessee.  Shevrin Jones and Michael Raynor-Goolsby, first openly LGBTQ lawmakers in Florida.  Taylor Small first openly trans member of the Vermont legislature.  All progressives running in swing states won their elections.

Generation Z and Millennials very soon will be the largest voting bloc and we will absolutely need them in the mid-terms.  While we're making nice, their future is diminishing.  How likely will they be to even vote if we don't treat their very real concerns with "house on fire" boldness it deserves.

Besides, we already tried making nice for 8 years under Barack Obama.  With all of that capitulation, we lost over 1000 seats.

The Country has spoken and Biden has broken record for most votes in history for any presidential candidate.

If they won, they would call it a mandate and do whatever extreme non inclusive laws they could shove down our throats.  Somehow that has appeal.  If we were bold,  we wouldn't appear weak and ineffective.
